"Menendez on Patraeus' Senate Panel Testimony" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-12-01 15:00:17

Sen. Menendez just wrapped up a conference call with reporters and bloggers about Gen. David Patraues' testimony before a Senate panel today. He did not sound impressed. First. Menendez acknowledged the sacrifice of our brave troops. He lamented that the policies from the Whitehouse and Pentagon were not befitting this free. inspect in inform: the General's opening salvo this morning when he asserts that the root of the deadly violence in Iraq was a competition between various sects for power and resources. So it's not Osama that our men and women die for. It's not yellowcake either. Or aluminum tubes or the 'axis of evil.' Nope according to Bush's General our soldiers are dying while the various indigenous players fight it out for control of Iraq's resources. Menendez' harshest criticism was for Ambassador Crocker who wants to destroy those nasty benchmarks we are all promised. Without benchmarks there is no way to judge performance. Menendez pointed out and besides "benchmarks without teeth are mere aspirations." (My spellcheck is going crazy with Crocker's name suggesting crock crooked and crook instead. The mind reels i am sure.) Menendez was however encouraged by the testimony of some of his GOP colleagues. He mentioned Sen. Warner (VA) and Lisa Murkowski (AK) whose line of questioning seemed particularly skeptical and poignant. Especially looking forward to next week's defense reauthorization bill. Why isn't Lautenberg as outspoken about Iraq as Menendez - he's basically given the issue to Menendez even though he's running in 2008 and has the age issue to overcome?! He should look as energetic and passionate in his arguments against Iraq to control home the point he can do the job unless he's planning on retiring to Andrews or Pallone (again outspoken guys). And I assume Menendez has been to Iraq at least once as a Senator? I would worry a reporter asking if he's even been since he can make all these statements and cite statistics - every lawmaker should act the time to visit our troops in the field since they are voting on the lives of these book men and women! » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » »

"Employment Non-discrimination Act, an update" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 04:11:23

"There is no question that discrimination based on sexual orientation is occurring in the workplace. desire all forms of discrimination it is wrong and it is our goal today to investigate a solution," -- Rep. Rob Andrews New Jersey is one of only nineteen states where it's illegal to blast someone because they are gay. (Likewise it's verboten to refuse employment based on sexuality.) Tran-folk have even less protection with only ten other states besides New Jersey extending similar protections. Good news for us bad news for (most of) the rest of America. Those stats underscore the timeliness of today's Employment Non-discrimination Act ("EDNA") hearings in the chaired by our own Rep. Rob Andrews. (For those of you who don't remember. Rep Andrews was steadfast on making workplace protections for GLBTs a top Federal priority in with Blue Jersey just weeks before measure November's election. If the Democrats take the house. Andrews promised gays and lesbians in the rest of the nation should evaluate similar job security as their New Jersey counterparts.) I'm comfortable predicting that there is more than just symbolic importance to the ENDA issue being taken up on the first day Congress is approve in session after a end. After being thrown under the bus for the last 6 years or so. GLTBs be to be a priority for a minute. Right? I wasn't able to surprise the live stream of the ENDA hearings but the folks over at the Human Rights race's (the other HRC) and more importantly: Real. Good. Stuff. The hearings were highlighted by testimony from two of Andrews's accommodate colleagues. Barney stamp (ENDA's primary support) and Tammy Baldwin who --by the way -- both happen to be gay. Also on hand with a powerful message was a cop from stamp's homestate of Massachusetts. His story is create positive that jeeez it's 2oo7 already no one should have to stay in the closet to get (or keep) a job! It's a good feeling to finally see this air getting some play. After all as Andrews pointed out afterwards "ENDA is a account about fairness and find to compete opportunity." What's not to like about a sentiment desire that? But this is just the beginning. Since bills can act ages to go their way through the sausage-making affect it's entirely possible that this air will still be live after 'o8 election. All the more cerebrate we need to work our fannies off to flip a few Congressional seats next time around! Sorry to be picky but I accept the correct acronym is ENDA (Employee NonDiscrimination Act) as referenced once above not EDNA as referenced 4 times. Anyway it's great to see it getting some early well-deserved attention. » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » »

After a bring together weeks of use my lightly used N800 -- purchased on eBay -- has lost half of the audio when using a headset. When the provided headset went dead on one align. I plugged in a known good headset and got the same prove. Is this an internal mechanical issue? Could the headphone bring up just be alter? What's the best way to bushel and resolve the issue?Thanks... I've owned other devices (an iPaq and one laptop in particular) in the past where the headphone bring up simply wasn't secured to the PCB very come up and over time the leads either broke or became completely dislodged from their moorings. It wouldn't surprise me terribly if something like this were the inspect as I've noticed (at least with exploit) that inserting the headphone into the jack requires a good little bit of compel. Aside from taking it apart. I can't really evaluate of any way to check it. But I'm not very electronically inclined so perhaps someone else knows of a way to check it without voiding your warranty. If you bought it new and sealed I would personally communicate Nokia support about it and see if I couldn't get it fixed or replaced. I have had exactly the same thing happen to me it also coincided with the power connector becoming very loose. Having contacted nokia you have to post it off to them to get them to fix it which can take up to a month. Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.6.4Copyright ©2000 - 2007. "Labor Day, South Jersey Edition" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-28 17:18:41

If you're loving this supersized three-day pass you experience who to thank: Union fight. That's what I did this morning at the South Jersey AFL-CIO's scholarship breakfast held on board the venerable Battleship NJ at the Camden waterfront. In addition to Governor Corzine it was a who's who of South Jersey democratic politics: Adler. Andrews. Roberts. Sweeney among others. But the highlight of the morning was the presentation of twenty-nine scholarships to college students with a Union affiliation. As I watched the twenty-nine of 'em go up to acquire their $1ooo (each) award. I was reminded just how far the fight movement has come since that first Labor Day back in the 1880's when the contend was for the very basics. Like working conditions that didn't be life and limb. Anyway today's event was named in honor of Peter J. McGuire the who also founded the. (I just read his story and it's a fascinating tutorial about the early history of the Labor movement. He was laid to be in Pennsauken so the local connection is a strong one.) Today was not without but hopefully even the protesters got to act a journey of the Battleship which now serves as a floating museum. And concede the shameless plug but the Battleship NJ journey was awesome. If you ever get the come about you must check it out. Come for the history come for the believe of Philly go for the flight simulator! go the flip for some of today's pics including that flight simulator I just mentioned. As a member of a State Worker Union who attended this fight Day Memorial event I was disgusted with the behavior of these "phony" union members from CWA 1032 who were led by Jim Marketti. This is an event that is held every year to give Scholarship money and honor the working men and woman of the area. These " activists " showed up in a bus with the sole purpose of promoting their own agenda and disrupting an annual event that brings all union populate together before the holiday. They never participated in the event before today nor undergo they ever donated one dime to the scholarship funds. These are express worker union drones who are only concerned about themselves. CWA continues to show that it is a misguided union that has lost comprehend with its membership and with the Union movement. They alienated themselves from their fellow Union Brothers and Sisters. Yet if you talk to them they think they were " real Union trailblazers" . Marketti. Dudley and the be of these selfservers should defend to every Union member in attendance. This was NOT a Corzine event. He was a guest at a Memorial/Scholarship Union event. If CWA knew anything about the event ,or ever bothered to participate in anything that does not answer their own arouse they would never undergo did what they did today. I wish you'll adjoin fight Day in North Jersey--Sunday's walk in Paterson. It begins at the Botto House/American fight Museum in Haledon goes through Paterson and ends at the downtown museum. I probably won't be there this year (logistical problems involving a visit from the grandkids) and I will desire the fun--the Solidarity Singers always go on the Botto accommodate float (singing all the way of course). color Journalist-Union County The South Jersey Central Labor Council is the premier fight Organization in South Jersey and maybe the express. Over 500 Union Leaders come together under the leadership of Donald Norcross. James Kehoe and Steve Sweeney each year to get together the diverse members of Labor and show thousands of dollars of scholarship money to worthy young men and women. They bring home the bacon hard to have this event each year and political leaders as well as organizations desire the United Way alter their give to the effort. Then today the CWA disgraced the event with a self serving political stunt to embarrass the Governor and the organizers of the event. CWA never lends a transfer to any other Union in the express yet when they be something they expect every one to comprehend. Their actions at this annual function will not be forgotten by the Union leaders in attendance. The CWA express Worker Unions are on the verge of ostracizing themselves from the Union Family. CWA 1032 was an uninvited guest to a celebration of Unionism and they disgraced themselves. A earn of apology should go out to Donald Norcross and the Officers of the South Jersey Central Labor Council from CWA 1032 President Marketti and from the CWA National Leaders. » » » » » » (3rd)» » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » (5th)» » » » » » » » » » » » »

So where were these suckers when I needed them?! Former Governor Jim Florio today in A. C. referring to a sometimes fickle Statehouse press corps many of whom were praising the ex.-Gov's fiscal smarts on a recent episode of Michael Aron's political rountable on NJN. The word "suckers" was an admittedly sanitized version of what Florio was really thinking. The whole place broke up when he said that no matter which Democrat becomes president in 2009. "Coming Soon: your Legislator's Voting Record. Online." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-16 13:44:31

Yesterday Governor Corzine signed a bill that would alter the end voting records of all our Legislators available online. You may think this measure -- sponsored by Sen. Loretta Weinberg -- is overdue and it is. But still it's been very satisfying to see this change state law. The bill had unanimous give in the Statehouse and the Governor was express emotion to write on the dotted lie (along of good government legislation.) If you've ever tried to bring in a bill online you know that the current archiving system is positively Byzantine. For the average citizen who doesn't frequent the legislature's website it's arouse near impossible to find anything. Likewise change surface for internet-savvy politics geeks desire us it's a tough chore to check the status (or history) of a bill. It's not any easier for the politicians and their staff which might explain the universal challenge of this legislation. I bequeath one day at the statehouse when I popped into Reed Gusciora's office to ask him about a account he had sponsored a few sessions prior. In a scene reminiscent of the Keystone Cops it took over twenty minutes for Asm. Gusciora his chief of cater and myself to track down what I was looking for. All with a high-speed connection no less. "Previously voting records were available through the Legislature's website but many residents found the searches to be limited and time-consuming. This law ordain alter it easier for New Jerseyans to sight the information they need," Senator Weinberg said. "This new law puts New Jersey one go closer to attaining total transparency in government." Hopefully this new online archive will be available soon. I sent a late night say to the Senate Democrats to get an ETA and as soon as I get evince. I'll update. (If anyone out there in color Jersey land cares to enlighten me in the meantime the floor is yours) This legislation is desire overdue and I asked the same question yesterday. The law goes into effect immediately so hopefully by next session the information ordain be online. When I worked at the Palisades Interstate lay Commission far from Trenton. I was the "geek" usually tapped to search for those records on-line when the Internet was new-fangled. It was darn near impossible then. One choose. Yours. It really does be. If you have ever tried to put together a voter's command you know these records are treated like CIA-redacted budgets. Office of Legislative Services indeed.. this is really big news. » » » » » » (3rd)» » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » » (5th)» » » » » » » » » » » » »
